Adults - Individual Therapy
At times life can seem a little overwhelming. Maybe there has been an event in your life that you are experiencing difficulty in dealing with or that there is an aspect of yourself that you want to change. Maybe you have a fear, anxiety or phobia that is taking hold of you and interrupting how you want to live your life. Maybe you are at a crossroads and are seeking help or inspiration about which way to turn, or maybe you just can’t cope with an aspect of your life, or even the feeling of life itself. Maybe the problem is not yours, and you are seeking help for someone else.
People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons and every reason is valid, worthwhile and acceptable.
What happens in therapy?
What happens in therapy is different for everyone: some people like to talk, while others prefer to use more creative methods like art, play or drama to express and deal with their issues. Many people use a combination depending on how they feel. However you choose to deal with your stuff is ok, there is no right or wrong way to ‘do’ therapy and I will not judge you on your choices.
What’s more, it is a myth that therapy is centred around feelings, it is centred around what makes YOU tick. Therefore if you operate in a very logical, practical or structured way, your experience of therapy is likely to be logical, practical or structured. If you are a feelings-based person, or like to take things as they come, then this is likely to be your experience of therapy. How you ‘do’ therapy is often an extension of how you ‘do’ relationships, or you ‘do’ life and this is what makes everybody’s therapeutic process special and unique.
How long will I be in therapy?
Again, this is different for each person and each reason why people come to therapy. Complex issues may need a year or more, other issues may be resolved fairly quickly. Therefore after every 6 sessions we have a review: a time to look at what has changed for you during those 6 sessions, your experience of therapy, and what needs to happen next – if anything – within therapy. Each session will last for 50 minutes.
How much will therapy cost me?
The first session is free. This is so that we can meet each other and I can find out a little bit about you and the reasons why you have come to therapy.
If you think that therapy will benefit you, you then have the option to make another appointment. Each appointment will then cost £30.
Please let me know if you are going to miss a session. There is no charge for missed appointments where more than 24 hours notice is given. However, there is a 50% charge for cancellations with less than 24 hours notice.
How do I know if my issue is ‘bad enough’ for therapy?
Many, many people have asked me this question. My response is that if it makes you feel ‘bad enough’ to think about or seek therapy, it is probably ‘bad enough’ to receive therapy and you will benefit from sessions. If in doubt, you can always come for an initial session and then decide.
Please remember, I am not here to judge you or your experiences. I am here to help you change an aspect of your life or self.
